Residents and staff across RMBI Care Co. Homes took part in Learning at Work Week during 18th to 24th May to share and learn new skills.
The theme for this year was ‘Many ways to learn’ and staff arranged a number of workshops, events and activities, exploring the different ways individuals can learn and build lifelong skills.
Residents and staff at Scarbrough Court in Northumberland enjoyed learning French and Spanish on the interactive tablets, whilst staff at James Terry Court in South Croydon participated in a poetry competition. Staff at the Home also engaged in experiential learning, a technique to help care staff step into the shoes of a resident living with dementia to understand how they might be feeling.

Other creative activities included decorating cupcakes, hand painting mugs and crocheting at Albert Edward Prince of Wales Court in Porthcawl. Whilst at Harry Priestley House in Doncaster, staff joined in a sign language session, and a book swap afternoon.

Claire Dodd, Assistant Director – Learning and Development at RMBI Care Co., said:
Learning at Work Week was a fun way to bring people together and share skills, as well as learn new ones. The week has had a really positive impact on the way people interact at our Homes and has given residents and staff an opportunity to learn additional skills.
Learning at Work Week is an annual event organised by the Campaign for Learning since 1999. It aims to put a spotlight on the importance and benefits of learning and development at work.
