With a new production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory coming to the theatre in Leicester in November, staff at a local care home were inspired to create a memorable day of sweet-filled treats and fun for their residents.
Staff at Devonshire Court transformed their care home into an elaborate Charlie and the Chocolate Factory setting, bringing joy and laughter to residents and staff alike.
We had an action-packed day of fun activities and chocolate treats as we invited residents to step into the magical world of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,
said Hayley York-Sharpe, Activities Coordinator at Devonshire Court.
Residents started the day with Wonka’s Chocolate Workshop, where they had the opportunity to create delicious chocolate treats and sample different flavours of hot chocolate. The excitement continued when some very special guests – the Oompa Loompas – came to join them. Their visit brought plenty of smiles and a touch of Wonka magic to Devonshire Court.
Our resident, Clive, had a huge smile on his face throughout the day and was full of laughter as he tasted the more unusual chocolate flavours. He particularly enjoyed discovering just how many varieties of hot chocolate there were,
said Hayley.
I didn’t realise there were so many different hot chocolate flavours. My favourite was the raspberry ripple,
resident Clive remarked.
It was wonderful to see our residents enjoy new experiences and make happy memories together. It was certainly a day to remember and left everyone with a little extra sweetness in their step,
concluded Hayley.
