Residents and staff at George Duke of Kent Court, in Chislehurst, Kent were in for a toe-tapping treat when talented dance students came to perform at their care home.

The students from Chislehurst School for Girls visited the residents as part of their summer tour of volunteer performances in residential care homes.

Residents cheered on the girls, as they were entertained with different genres of dance including tap, modern and Spanish flamenco. After the show, the students took the opportunity to chat with the audience and share stories.

It was the very first time resident Paul Williams got up to dance. He says:

I’m not much of a dancer, but I had a lot of fun.

The performance also helped him reminisce.

I loved the flamenco dance and how graceful the young students moved. I hadn’t seen that type of dancing since being on holiday many moons ago!

he adds.

Resident Donald Cole says:

It was so lovely to see a variety of entertainment. It brought back memories of when I used to go ballroom dancing with my wife.

Activities Coordinator Diane Connor, who helped to organise the event, says:

Our residents thoroughly enjoyed the dance performance and are grateful to the students of Chislehurst School for Girls for volunteering their time. Intergenerational activities can be hugely beneficial for both groups to build social connections in the community and increase understanding and respect between different generations.
