The cold and wet Autumn days might have set in. However, residents at Prince Edward Duke of Kent Court, in Braintree, Essex have been enjoying a fun-filled week as they travelled the world on a mini staycation.
To support residents’ health and wellbeing, and help create some holiday fun, Activities Coordinator Sophie George and the staff team hosted a variety of themed days to transport residents around the world, all from the comfort of their Home.
On the first day, they travelled to India, where residents were joined by local Bollywood dancer, Jaymini Nakum, who taught everyone some dance moves and hand gestures. Staff members tried on colourful saris and everyone enjoyed tasty traditional dishes.
Taking part, resident Pat says:
It was very interesting to learn about Jaymini’s life and I really enjoyed the dancing. It was a good laugh and I love seeing the staff getting involved!
On day two, residents were transported to Germany, just in time for Oktoberfest and they tried their hand at folk dancing. Resident Jo, who had previously lived in Germany, speaks fluent German and was able to teach staff members some words. She mentioned:
I loved watching the folk dancing as it brought back fond memories of living in Germany.
Residents tucked into Chicken schnitzel and German sausages, beer and pretzels during the day.
For day three, residents visited sunny Florida where they experienced the magical world of Disney by dressing up and decorating their own Mickey and Minnie headband ears. The sun came out in time for their American styled barbeque complete with burgers and hot dogs.
To round off the week’s events, residents ended their staycation in France. They made their own croissants and pain au chocolat and indulged in a selection of cheese and wines.
Activities Coordinator Sophie George at Prince Edward Duke of Kent Court, said:
Our residents loved last year’s themed staycation so we decided to do it again but with new countries to visit. It puts a smile on everyone’s faces when they get involved in new cultural activities, learn about traditions around the world and sample different cuisines.
