Margaret Jones, a resident at Albert Edward Prince of Wales Court, in Porthcawl, has reached an incredible milestone: her 100th birthday! She had a celebration with family, friends and fellow residents, enjoying a special party full of laughter, cake, and happy memories.

On her big day, she was delighted to receive a birthday card from the King and Queen Consort, an extra special touch to mark a century of wonderful memories. Margaret says:

I’ve had such a good life, and I’m lucky to be celebrating this day with my family and friends. I feel so special!

A fruitful life

Born in Kenfig Hill, in Bridgend, in 1925, Margaret has lived a life full of adventure. During the Second World War, she joined the WRENS at just 18, bravely leaving home to serve in the Royal Navy. She worked at air bases in Yeovilton and Henstridge, rising to the rank of Leading WREN before leaving the service in 1946.

After the war, Margaret spent time travelling the world, visiting America, Canada, Australia, Tasmania and many places across Europe and the UK. Back home, she played an active role in her local community, attending St Theodore’s Church and volunteering at the church shop.

She was also a member of the Women’s Institute, the Mothers’ Union and her Scrabble group. Before retiring to spend more time with her two grandsons, she worked as a counter clerk at her local Post Office.

Home Manager Alison Aberdeen adds:

Margaret is a joy to have here. We are thrilled to celebrate this amazing milestone with her!
