RMBI Care Co. has been shortlisted for two prestigious national awards, recognising excellence in fire safety management and innovation. The charity, which supports around 1,000 residents and employs over 1,500 staff across 17 care homes in England and Wales, has been named a finalist in the categories of Fire Safety Manager of the Year and Fire Safety Project of the Year at the upcoming Fire & Security Matters Awards.
Brett Edwards, RMBI Care Co.’s Health, Safety & Risk Director, has been shortlisted for Fire Safety Manager of the Year, acknowledging his exceptional approach to managing fire safety in care homes. With a deep understanding of fire safety legislation and a commitment to creating safe living spaces for older people, Brett has driven a strong culture of accountability and transparency across the organisation.
Brett’s hands-on approach includes working directly with the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC), the Home Office, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and local Fire Authorities to ensure best practice is both met and shared across the wider sector. He has also played a key role in influencing national guidance relating to fire safety in care settings.
In parallel, RMBI Care Co.’s project “Strengthening Fire Safety Data Digitally” has been shortlisted for Fire Safety Project of the Year. This ambitious initiative saw the development and rollout of a live, digital fire safety monitoring system. The system enables staff and senior leaders to track real-time data, identify trends and risks, and respond quickly. This has transformed how fire safety is handled, reducing administrative burden, improving accuracy, and giving operational teams more time to focus on preventative actions.
RMBI Care Co.’s Health, Safety & Risk Director Brett Edwards says:
I am incredibly proud to be shortlisted for Fire Safety Manager of the Year, alongside our outstanding team at RMBI Care Co. Fire safety is a critical part of our commitment to providing a safe and supportive environment for our residents and staff.
The digital fire safety system has not only improved the accuracy and efficiency of our processes, but also empowered our teams to take a more proactive approach to managing risks.
