A group of kind-hearted parents and childminders have brought joy to residents at Prince George Duke of Kent Court, in Chislehurst by bringing their babies and toddlers to visit. The group, from London based Boppin’ Bunnies, who provide musical classes for under 5’s, joined with residents to play games, instruments, and take part in sing-alongs. The beautiful partnership started in 2024 between the group of parents and the residents at the Home.

Research has shown that for older people, engaging with babies and young children can help to increase wellbeing and reduce loneliness and depression. The benefits for young children are also increasingly being recognised. Childcare providers report increased confidence, less anxiety and better communication skills.

It is also thought that introducing intergenerational interaction at an early age helps shape more positive attitudes toward ageing as well as increase understanding and awareness.

Diane Connor, the Home’s Activities Coordinator, says:

Our residents can’t wait for the children to visit. They play musical instruments and take part in sing-alongs with the residents and everyone enjoys it. It’s a fun way to spend some time together.

The parents have been so kind and really open to learning about people living with dementia. The intergenerational visits have brought a real energy to Prince George Duke of Kent Court,

she adds.
