Residents and staff members at Connaught Court, in York, had a colourful week to mark Pride Month in June. The fun-filled celebrations kicked off in magnificent style with staff decorating the main areas around the Home in a range of colours to reflect the Pride rainbow theme. The kitchen team baked and decorated rainbow cupcakes, which went down a real treat during an afternoon themed tea party.
Residents and staff shared their stories and experiences, and participated in a learning session about the history of LGBTQIA+ rights, changes in society through time and today’s Pride. Everyone was fascinated to learn about the vibrant LGBTQIA+ scene in the city with The York Arms, which is believed to be one of the oldest gay pubs.
Taking part in the discussion, Clinical Nurse Manager Louise said:
Recognising the LGBTQIA+ community, their contributions and their ongoing fight for equality and acceptance is important. We are proud to create a safe space where all individuals feel welcomed and valued.
