To mark Pride Month in June, residents and staff members at Queen Elizabeth Court, in Llandudno, had a colourful celebration. The fun-filled celebrations kicked off in magnificent style with staff decorating the main areas around the Home in a range of colours to reflect the Pride rainbow theme.

Residents and staff shared their stories and experiences, and participated in a learning session about the history of LGBTQIA+ rights, changes in society through time and today’s Pride. Everyone was fascinated to learn about Gareth Thomas, a Welsh former professional rugby player who came out as gay in 2009 and has been a vocal advocate for LGBTQIA+ rights and HIV awareness. Staff also wore bright colours to show solidarity with the Pride community.

Taking part in the discussion, resident Maureen said:

As long as people are happy and treat each other with respect, that’s what matters most. We all need to live!

Richard, one of the Activities Coordinators at Queen Elizabeth Court commented:

Celebrating Pride Month is important to make people aware. I dislike the idea of prejudice towards anyone, so it’s nice for us to be able to come together and create a safe space where people share our values and can live authentically.
