Nikki Clack, HR Business Partner at RMBI Care Co., proudly took part in the final leg of the Great British Care Cycle Relay 2025 on Monday 16 June. She completed a challenging 110km ride from Brighton to London in support of the social care sector.

The Great British Care Cycle Relay is a national event designed to raise awareness of social care across the UK. Taking place in the lead-up to Care Home Open Week, the five-day relay brings together colleagues, supporters and families to celebrate the vital role of care services in every community. Each route includes visits to care homes along the way, offering moments to connect and highlight the incredible work happening across the sector.

On the road to celebrate great care

The journey began at Maycroft Manor Care Home, in Patcham, where Nikki and fellow riders faced an immediate test: a steep 11% climb to Ditchling Beacon. From there, the group cycled across the picturesque South Downs and through Mid Sussex to their first stop, Ashton House Nursing Home, in Haywards Heath. Residents and staff greeted them with warm encouragement, refreshments and plenty of cheer.

Reinvigorated, the team continued towards Greensands House Care Home, in Redhill, tackling rolling hills, including a notable ascent at Turners Hill. A hearty lunch and a warm welcome awaited them, before they pressed on to one of the most demanding parts of the route: a 16% gradient from Merstham to Chaldon, rewarded with stunning views of the North Downs.

At RMBI Care Co. Home James Terry Court, in Croydon, the riders were welcomed with a celebratory reception from residents, staff and members of the Home’s Association of Friends, an independent charity that supports James Terry Court by befriending residents and organising fundraising activities. Conversations over cake revealed many residents’ fond memories of cycling; some as a childhood necessity, others as a long-held passion.

The final stretch to Loveday Belgravia was flatter, allowing riders a smooth and reflective finish. The team was met with one last round of applause, bringing the day’s effort to a heart-warming close.
Speaking after the ride, Nikki says:

This was a meaningful opportunity to connect care homes, colleagues and residents through a shared journey. It truly highlighted the sense of community and the vital role that social care plays in people’s lives. I was proud to be a part of it and to help shine a light on the value of our sector.

62 miles in 5 hours and 24 minutes.
