A resident at Devonshire Court, in Leicester, has recently marked an incredible milestone as she celebrated her 102nd birthday surrounded by friends and staff.
Kay Tailby enjoyed a wonderful birthday party at the Home, where everyone came together to make the occasion truly special. The celebrations included delicious cakes for all, plenty of laughter, and a warm, joyful atmosphere shared among residents and team members.
Staff at Devonshire Court were delighted to honour Kay’s remarkable achievement, ensuring her day was filled with happiness and memorable moments.
Kay was born in 1924 in Essex. Growing up on a farm in the countryside, she enjoyed nature and being surrounded by animals and birds. When Kay was a child, she joined the cricket team as there were not enough boys in the village to play cricket.
Kay left school to join the Royal Corps of Signals during WWII. At the end of the war, Kay married Albert in 1945 in a Leicester Registry Office. Together, they fostered a dozen of babies and children. They lived in Quorn for three years with family then lived in Queniborough until Albert passed away. Kay and Albert have three children – one son and two daughters.
At the Home, Kay enjoys seeing any children when they visit, particularly during the intergenerational group session with the children from the local nursery once a week.
She loves tennis and used to play it and always watches Wimbledon every year. Kay loves seeing the dogs when they come, and loves to see and listen to the birds outside her window where she has a bird feeder.
When asked if she had any life lessons to share with the younger generations, Kay says:
Do what makes you happy and live in the countryside.
