Prince Michael of Kent Court resident enjoys a memorable tea party to celebrate her 100th birthday

A resident at Prince Michael of Kent Court, in Watford, has celebrated her 100th birthday.

Violet Dudgeon enjoyed a celebration complete with a homemade cake at the care home with fellow residents, who cheered and clapped when she entered the room. Staff were determined to ensure that she had a memorable birthday, so they safely arranged this tea party for her. Violet spent some time with her daughter, and her loved ones met her in the Home’s visitor pod too.

Thrilled to have reached this impressive milestone, she thanked everyone who made her day special. However, she is in disbelief about turning 100, as she says she still feels young at heart.

Violet, who was born in May 1921, worked in the distribution office for the Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes (NAAFI) during the Second World War. The company sold goods to servicemen and their families. She recalled:

It was very important as it fed all our lovely soldiers.

Her husband, William, was a Freemason, and Violet herself enjoyed being involved in the Masonic community.

She said she has managed to have a long life as she has always tried not to worry and relax. Although, when asked if she had any advice for young generations, she gave none. She joked:

What would I say to younger people? They never listen!

Despite the pandemic, Violet has coped extremely well during the past year. She has had regular video calls with her family and has been involved in all the Home’s activities. She said:

I’m very lucky to be here.

Violet is such a vibrant and fun loving lady! She is always so positive and keen to join in all our initiatives. She is forever grateful for people’s time and always has a smile for anyone who meets her.
