Watford care home resident Pamela Brett, who lives at Prince Michael of Kent Court, is one of the care home’s most active residents.

At age 90, keeping fit is just as important to Pamela (better known amongst residents and staff as ‘Pam’) as ever before. To honour International Women’s Day, Pam is encouraging women to prioritise ‘keeping fit’ to support their mental and physical wellbeing.

Pam said:

Staying active has been important to me at every stage of my life.

Pam takes her fitness regime very seriously. She cycles every day in the care home’s newly built gym and often gets residents and staff members to join in. She never misses a weekly exercise session, which is run by the Home’s Activities Coordinators, and wears a fitness tracker to monitor her activity.

When I cycle, I often play a YouTube video, which takes me along scenic views of the Cotswolds. It really helps with motivation,

reveals Pam.

Pam is a fantastic character; she brings a real spark to our Home. Her motivation, spirit and drive are a real inspiration to women and girls everywhere to keep active,

said Tracy Lydon, one of the Home’s Activities Coordinators.

Pam, who was born in Watford in 1932 and lives at Prince Michael of Kent Court with her husband Tony, enjoys taking part in social events at the Home. When asked her secret to a long life, her answer was obvious:

Exercise regularly, eat well and avoid smoking and alcohol, naturally!
