To help mark this year’s Remembrance Day, resident Gwen Parker at Prince Michael of Kent Court, in Watford, set herself a challenge to raise funds for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.
Moving into the Home just a few weeks ago, Gwen, aged 97, wasted no time in continuing her lifelong passion for supporting war veterans.
I have been making poppies for over 40 years and selling them door to door. I love supporting the charity and honouring those that served our country,
said Gwen.
Before moving to the care home, Gwen lived in Cheshunt and often volunteered for the Royal British Legion with her husband.
We knew how important this cause was to Gwen and wanted to support her to continue her good work. Other residents helped Gwen to make poppies and went throughout the Home selling them. We raised £50 which will go towards the Poppy Appeal.
said Tracy Lydon, Activities Coordinator at Prince Michael of Kent Court.
