Autumn might have set in. However, residents at Prince Edward Duke of Kent Court, in Braintree, Essex, have been enjoying a fun-filled week in the sun as they travelled the world on a mini staycation.
To support residents’ health and wellbeing, and help create some sunshine around the Home as the cooler months arrive, Activities Coordinator Sophie George and the staff team hosted a variety of themed days to transport residents around the world, all from the comfort of their Home.
The themes included Spain, where residents donned their best summer outfits and enjoyed tasty dishes including chorizo, patatas bravas and churros, along with sangria. The sun also came out for Caribbean day, where residents wore flower garlands and dipped their feet in the paddling pool in the Home’s gardens, while listening to music and playing beach games. Other themed days included Greece and Italy, where everyone indulged in ice cream, pizza and mocktails whilst learning about traditional arts, music and dance.
Resident Patricia May said:
It was wonderful to see everyone on their feet during our Greece themed day. We danced and sang along to Abba, wearing colourful clothes and fun glasses.
Katrina Karolchyk, Deputy Home Manager at Prince Edward Duke of Kent Court, said:
It was the perfect opportunity for everyone to get outside and have some fun together. We chatted, laugh and reminisced.
