Prince Michael of Kent Court residents celebrate Hanukkah

To mark the Jewish festival of Hanukkah, residents at Prince Michael of Kent Court, in Watford, have enjoyed an array of festivities.

Staff have been lighting the Hanukkiah (a candelabra/candleholder with nine branches) every evening during the eight-day festival known as the ‘Festival of Lights.’

On the sixth day, residents enjoyed a tea party at the Home and learned about the story of Hanukkah, spun driedels (four-sided spinning tops) and tucked into delicious homemade doughnuts. Rosalie Courtney says:

Hanukkah has been a memorable time for both residents and staff this year. Some of our residents reminisced about their memories of Hanukkah and sang traditional songs.

She adds:

It also brought loved ones together, creating an added warmth in the Home, as some families came along to share in the celebrations.
