Who says you can’t start a new hobby and make a difference at the same time? At Zetland Court, in Bournemouth, residents are proving it’s never too late to pick up knitting needles and create something truly special.

With support from the staff, residents are putting their creative skills to heartwarming use by knitting baby hats and blankets for the local NHS maternity ward. After reaching out to the ward, staff were delighted to hear that these handmade items would help to provide comfort for newborns and their families.

Tatiana, Activities Coordinator at Zetland Court, says:

Many of our ladies who enjoy hand-knitting were eager to get started. For those who find knitting by hand challenging, we introduced devices to make the process easier.

These tools allow even beginners, some who have never knitted before, to take part. After all, it’s never too late to learn something new, especially for such a meaningful cause.

Residents Theresa and June were particularly enthusiastic, experimenting with circular knitting machines to speed up their progress. Resident June says:

We had great fun figuring out how the machines work, and we are already planning big projects for the future!

The excitement at the Home is palpable as everyone looks forward to delivering these lovingly made items to the maternity ward.
