While dogs and cats are the most common therapy pets, other small animals like rabbits, and guinea pigs can also be employed for their astonishing calming and therapeutic effects. These animals can positively support older people’s physical and mental well-being, making them great candidates for pet therapy.

Residents and staff at Queen Elizabeth Court, in Llandudno, recently adopted two guinea pigs, Tiffany and Lady Liberty, who have quickly become very popular among the residents.

One of the residents, Margaret said:

Tiffany was so soft and calm! I loved cuddling her. It was funny when she squeaked with excitement when I fed her a treat.

The staff also enjoy the company of the two new furry friends. Elaine, Clinical Nurse Manager who brought the guinea pigs to the Home, mentioned:

The guinea pigs have been a fantastic addition to the Queen Elizabeth Court family. It was amazing to see the joy the animals brought to our residents. Their smiling faces said it all!
