Year 1 – Our progress

  • We created an EDI statement to share our goals with residents, staff and anyone that comes into our Homes. It is now displayed on our website and in each of our care homes.

  • We are focused on better capturing our residents’ data to ensure we can meet, support and celebrate their cultural identities. Our Quality and Governance Team is in the process of creating an additional form for residents to complete if they wish, to enable the teams to support their care planning and equity of care delivery.

  • We invite all new employees to complete their personal information and we regularly ask all to review their data. This is to ensure we have up-to-date information and, whilst respecting this is not compulsory, it does enable us to ensure we are demonstrating diversity and inclusivity across our staff teams. During the year, we have compared our location data against the last UK census data and can see that the diversity within our Homes aligns well with this.

  • A set of EDI standards has been developed for us to work towards, focusing on Leadership, Workforce and Service Delivery/User Experience.

  • The first EDI Care Home Award was presented during our 2023 annual conference to recognise staff efforts to promote our EDI goals.

  • A successful recruitment drive has increased the charity’s Committee Members. This provides a more diverse pool of individuals who may become Trustees.

  • We produced visual posters to support our EDI statement and help foster an inclusive community.

  • We celebrated various cultural events at head office and in our Homes to learn, grow and develop together. This has also been evidenced in a number of news stories shared throughout the year across our communications channels and in media titles.
