Harry Priestley House residents celebrate friendship during Learning Disability Week

Residents and staff at Harry Priestley House, in Thorne, have joined thousands of people UK-wide in supporting Learning Disability Week (15-21 June).

The Home,  provides residential care for adults with learning disabilities.

Staff at the Home organised a week of fun activities to mark the week, including cupcake baking, a garden party and a picnic. The Home also launched the Harry Priestley House resident choir!

The theme of this year’s Learning Disability Week, which is run by national charity Mencap, is ‘friendship’ and residents have been celebrating and sharing what friendship has meant to them during lockdown.

Harry Priestley House Manager, Anne Stobart, said:

“This year’s theme of friendship is so poignant given the current situation. Having good friends at our Home and in the local community has helped enormously in recent weeks.

“Friendships between our residents, staff, families and the local community have grown during lockdown. We’ve enjoyed so many kindnesses from people. For example, the man who delivers our catering surprised us with a rainbow cake last week and our Association of Friends brought us some plants to grow in our garden.”
