James Terry Court residents celebrate VE Day anniversary

Residents at James Terry Court, in South Croydon, have marked the 76th Anniversary of VE Day.

To honour the anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe, the Home’s staff carefully organised a social distanced gathering for residents.

Two residents, including Susan Reed, who is a singer, volunteered to entertain the group and led a singalong of songs from the 1940s. The Home was decorated with British flags and the residents tucked into a special meal.

According to research by What Works Wellbeing, an independent collaborating centre, engagement in music activities can help older people to connect with their life experiences with other people, and be more stimulated.

Home Activities Coordinator, Lucy Fernandes, said:

Marking the anniversary of VE Day is such an important event for our residents, many of whom fought for Britain during the Second World War. At James Terry Court, it is a time where we reflect and remember all those who lived during this time and everything that they sacrificed for future generations.
