Earlier this month, residents and staff at James Terry Court, in South Croydon, enjoyed a visit from the local team at St Christopher’s, a specialist palliative care service, which provides advice 24 hours a day, seven days a week. St Christopher’s works closely alongside GPs, hospital teams and other NHS services, with sites in Sydenham and Orpington.
The visiting team, which consisted of two doctors and two nurses, were able to speak with residents about a wide range of issues around health and wellbeing, from keeping active, to medication, retaining independence and future care plans. Representatives from Age UK also attended and held a fun keep fit session for everyone to join in.
Staff had the opportunity to take part in a lively and informative training session from the St Christopher’s team, learning about different ways to support residents, as well as the services, resources and activities available for older people in Croydon.
Derek Thomas, one of the Activities Coordinators at James Terry Court, says:
It’s really important for us to stay connected with our local community and create a space where residents, their families and professionals can share their experiences and expertise.
It was a fun and sociable event, but we were also able to learn more about the services available around our Home and different ways of supporting our residents.
