Nick Stechman, Senior Shift Leader at James Terry Court in South Croydon

It is not a job for everyone but I found caring for our residents can be very rewarding.

Nick has worked at RMBI Care Co. for eight years.
Can you describe a typical day at work for you?

My day starts by ensuring there is adequate staff cover across the Home. I help to ensure the Home is compliant in regards to medication, person centred care and any staff related issues, including supervisions and managing staff absence.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I enjoy talking with residents and helping staff with any concerns, working closely with the Home Manager and Deputy Home Manager.

What sort of training have you had with RMBI Care Co. to help you carry out your role?

I have been on numerous courses with RMBI Care Co. In addition to the mandatory courses, I have completed Infection Prevention Control training, NVQ Level 3, Manual Handling Lead and Medication training.

What would you say to someone who might be considering a career within care?

It is not a job for everyone and you will often have to put the needs of your residents above your own, but caring for our residents can be very rewarding.
