Prince George Duke of Kent Court residents get knitting for babies in need

Two residents at Prince George Duke of Kent Court, in Chislehurst, have teamed up to knit small hats for babies receiving support in the Neonatal Unit at Darent Valley Hospital, in Dartford.

Ninety-eight year old Annie Hamlin, and 96 year old Jean Sweett, along with her daughter Pam, have been putting their love for knitting to provide warmth for babies who have been born prematurely and need to spend time in the Special Care Baby Unit.

Jean, along with Diane Connor, the Home’s Activities Coordinator, were delighted to visit the Neonatal Unit in the hospital to hand deliver the knitted hats.

Knitting is one of my favourite pastimes. It is very good for my arthritis and keeps my hands moving for a few hours of the day, every day,

said care home resident Annie.

I am very proud to be part of such a worthwhile project, supporting premature babies and their families during their time in hospital.

she added.

Karen Smith, a ward unit staff member at the hospital, said:

We really appreciate the kind gesture of the residents at Prince George Duke of Kent Court. The hats made by the residents will definitely melt some of the parents and midwives’ hearts!

Currently, the Home is planning to raise funds for the neonatal unit to purchase a steriliser, muslins and fleece blankets.
