Residents at Prince Edward Duke of Kent Court, in Braintree (Essex), recently set off on a unique and joyful outing, transforming a trip around the grounds into a safari-style adventure.
With support from staff members Maxine and Clare, and using a golf buggy fondly renamed the “Safari Shuttle”, residents travelled across the Home’s beautiful outdoor spaces, where they came face to face with a range of lifelike animal sculptures. From a towering giraffe to a striking gorilla, each discovery sparked conversation, laughter and a sense of wonder.

Resident Pat says:
I had such a brilliant time. Seeing the animals made me feel like a child again. It was wonderful to get out in the fresh air and have a good laugh with everyone!
The experience continued beyond the grounds, with residents enjoying a gentle journey around All Saints’ Church. Surrounded by the sights and sounds of spring, they took in the fresh air, seasonal blooms and peaceful atmosphere.
Michelle Sims, Home Manager at Prince Edward Duke of Kent Court, says:
It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces as they returned from their trip. Activities like this are so important as they give residents the chance to enjoy the outdoors, stay active and create happy memories together. The team regularly organises trips like these, giving residents the opportunity to take part whenever they wish.
The golf buggy was purchased by the Home’s Association of Friends, who supports Prince Edward Duke of Kent Court by befriending residents, organising events and fundraising for different activities to help enhance the residents’ lives.
Residents and staff encountered ultra-realistic wild animals, such as a gorilla.
