Residents at Devonshire Court, in Leicester, are enjoying a new open space at their care home in Oadby. Home Manager Juliet McNeilly says:
Our balcony area is our newest addition in creating open spaces that can be appreciated by all our residents, especially to socialise and enjoy nature in the warmer months.
The new area, called the Fred Lifford Balcony, was officially opened by Steven Varley, Assistant Grand Master, alongside Peter Kinder, Provincial Grand Master of Leicestershire & Rutland and RMBI Care Co.’s Chair of Trustees, John Boyington.

To mark the event, staff at the Home created a day of activities for residents, staff, and guests to enjoy. This included a dementia bus experience, where guests had the opportunity to use equipment that helped them understand what it might feel like to live with dementia, and tours of the Kindness Suite, a newly refurbished area with personalised bedrooms, light installations and communal lounges.
Home Manager Juliet McNeilly says:
We see our Home as the next stage in someone’s life. For people to come here and live to the full to the very end of life.
Resident Pat Mutch enjoys a gentle keep fit activity in the Home’s lounge.
Resident Shirley Hughes says:
The new balcony is really spacious and has good views looking out to the front of the Home and local area. I’m looking forward to spending more time outdoors once the weather gets warmer.
Devonshire Court, which is currently rated ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission, supports older people with residential care and residential dementia care.
