Residents and staff at Prince Edward Duke of Kent Court, in Braintree, have recently enjoyed a morning full of colour, creativity and cheerful conversation thanks to a special floral workshop.

The home welcomed Pauline, owner of The Personalised Flower Box, a local florist in Braintree, who brought along a stunning selection of artificial flowers in beautiful autumn shades, complete with charming decorations such as miniature pumpkins on sticks.

Following a short demonstration, residents had the choice of arranging their flowers in either a weighted woven bag, delicately printed with “Home Sweet Home”, or a terracotta pot featuring a heart design. The decision alone sparked plenty of excitement and conversation.

The main lounge soon came alive with activity as residents carefully crafted their unique bouquets. Even the Home’s Facilities Manager, Carl Hewitt, joined in, proudly creating his own floral display. Laughter and compliments filled the room as residents admired one another’s designs, with just the occasional bit of friendly critique too!

Resident Pat embraced the role of “Flower Supervisor”, wandering the lounge to share thoughtful advice and encouraging words with her fellow residents. She says:

I was quick to suggest which blooms might make each bouquet stand out even more. I wanted to ensure that everyone felt proud of their creations.

Staff also praised the session, describing it as a calming and therapeutic opportunity to relax and focus on something creative. The joy of the morning carried on well into the afternoon, with residents still chatting about the workshop over lunch and enjoying the colourful displays brightening the lounge.

The Home’s Activities Coordinator, Sophie, says:

We are now looking forward to Pauline’s return in November, when residents will have the chance to create festive Christmas decorations together. The date has already been marked with much anticipation!
